Introduction to The Meeting Advantage - Patrick Lencioni

Patrik Lencioni asserts that improving our meetings is important for two basic reasons:

  1. Meetings are a source of pain because they can cause the waste of our time, the frustration of not talking & resolving the most important issues, to the sheer boredom. Thus, meetings are a source of pain for so many leaders and the people they manage.
  2. Meetings are critical to the success of our organizations. There's no escaping the fact that good meetings are essential for making better & faster decisions, avoiding the politics, confusion, & bureaucracy that causes so many promising companies to underachieve.

He says, if he had to assess an organization's potential, he'd just observe the leadership team during one of their regular weekly meetings. What takes place during those meetings reveals more about the health & effectiveness of an organization than anything else.

The tool that he & his team has created is called "The meeting advantage." It provides a leadership team with the context & clarity it needs to make those regular meetings focused, compelling, & productive.

The tool is easy & practical to use & can apply to any leadership team, corporation, start-up, non-profit, school, church, or any other organization. Finally, as important as this tool is for transforming the meetings, nothing can substitute the persistence, discipline, & passion that's necessary to have difficult conversations & to commit to decisions.
